Kalaw (1320 m above sea-level), a former british hill station, is located at the main road from Taunggyi to Mandalay on the western part of the Shan Plateau. Still many colonial buildings can be seen in Kalaw. This charming little town is really one of our favourite places in Myanmar. Unfortunately most visitors do not have enough time to explore this beautiful area in and around Kalaw.

Surrounded hills are inhabited by several different tribes: 
Palaung, Pa-O, Intha, Shan, Taungthu, Taung-Yo, Danu, Kayah, Danaw and of course the Bamars!

Gracious Myanmar Travel Ltd. can arrange several trekking tours, from ½ day - 4 days trekking. For our trekking programs with overnight stays, your accommodation will be in a monastery. That is also the traditional way of Burmese travellers in the past. If there is no Hotel or guest-house, people always can find a sleeping place in the monasteries. During our trekking tours are also NO Hotels or Guesthouses available. But you can be assured, that the overnight stays at local Buddhist monasteries are really an unforgettable adventure. Please be reminded, that the monastery is not a hotel. Accommodation is very simple and basic, shower and private bed-room is not available! Traditional sleeping mat, Pillows and covers will be provided! People who love this kind of adventure will be surely deeply touched by this unforgettable trip to Kalaw and surrounded villages! 3 night stop: from Kalaw to Inle Lake!!! Very exciting, you need to be healthy and fit! Visit different hill tribes: Palaung, Pa-O, Danu, Taung-Yo and study the difference of their culture.

Useful information:

Winter: From November to February; the most pleasant season for travellers. During this season the climate resembles a fair European summer. However, in some mountainous areas like Kalaw the temperatures can drop to 0 or even minus centigrade after sun-set. Enjoy sitting in front of the cosy fire-places in the Evening, which are provided by most Hotels!
PLEASE NOTE: A JACKET, PULLOVER, SOCKS, AND GOOD TREKKING SHOES ARE NEEDED!!!!!!!
